Although the Cougars lost their first conference game against the ECU Pirates on Saturday, they are still coming off a big week heading into a midweek road game against the Sam Houston State Bearkats.

Senior second baseman Selena Hernandez was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Monday morning after she had a big week against the Texas Longhorns and the Pirates. Hernandez hit three home runs throughout the week, with two in her 3-3 performance against the Longhorns and another against the Pirates on Friday.

Hernandez isn’t the only one scoring runs for the Cougars, as the team scored 27 runs over their past four games. Strong pitching also played a large role in the Cougars’ success last week, and after a close game against the Longhorns and a series win over the Pirates, the team is having a solid start overall.

The Cougars travel to Huntsville to play the Bearkats at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday for the first of a five-game road tour, including a big three-game series against the conference rival UCF Knights next weekend.
