As one of 14 students selected to intern for the Washington Internships for Students of Engineering, chemical engineering junior Jami Summey-Rice will get the chance to intern in Washington, D.C. among other enthusiasts of energy policy.
“I’m fascinated by energy policy (and) sustainability,” Summey-Rice said in a press release. “I realized I have aspirations outside engineering.”
The program will have Summey-Rice spend nine weeks learning how engineers contribute to legislative and regulatory policy decisions. She will focus on the environmental effects of high-speed rails versus air travel.
Summey-Rice is the vice president of the UH chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
