The Cougars outlasted the Memphis Tigers on Thursday, advancing to the semifinals of the AAC softball championship.

Junior starting pitcher Julana Shrum led Houston to the 1-0 win with a strong performance from the mound.

Shrum pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and one walk on the day, registering one strikeout.

The game was Shrum’s eighth shutout of the season, and her record improves to 13-10 on the season.

The Cougars mustered just three hits for offense on the day, but the only run needed was provided in the bottom of the first inning.

Freshman left-fielder Kaylin Crumpton drew a walk with one out, before being moved over to second thanks to a groundout by senior shortstop Selena Hernandez.

The next batter up, sophomore Shelby Miller, was able to single into left field, scoring Crumpton from second, for the first and only RBI of the afternoon.

With the win, Houston, 28-26 overall on the season, now advances to the AAC Tournament semifinals to face the winner of Game Two between Tulsa and UConn.
