Houston track and field announced Wednesday that 15 athletes, as well as two teams qualified for the NCAA West Regional.
The Cougars will compete in the three-day event to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships.
Men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams will each take part in the event, as well as individual athletes, in events such as sprints, hurdles, distance, jumping and throwing.
Highlighting the Houston qualifiers is junior hurdler Issac Williams, who will compete in the 110m hurdles.
Williams set the fifth-fastest time in the West region this season, running a 13.56 while at the Mt. SAC relays earlier this season in Walnut, Calif.
During the indoor fall season, Williams also qualified for NCAA Nationals in the 60m hurdles.
Senior Drevan Anderson-Kaapa and sophomore Brian Barraza each qualified for distance events, with Anderson-Kaapa preparing to run the 800m and Barraza the 5000m.
Senior Brittany Kinney was the top qualifier in the field events for her 12.74m effort in the triple jump this season.
Kinney posted that distance at the American Outdoor Championships, and earned her second consecutive regional appearance in the event.
The West Regional’s top 12 individual performances in each event, as well as the top 12 relay teams will earn a spot at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon from June 10-13.
The NCAA West Regional will be held this Thursday to Saturday at the Mike A. Myers stadium in Austin, Texas.
