The Cougars are hoping to follow up a strong road win with a defense of their home field when they take on Southern Methodist University on Thursday night.

UH currently sits at 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the American Athletic Conference and will be looking to remain perfect against SMU in their first conference home game of the year.

Last time out, Houston dominated the ground game against the University of Tulsa, as junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr. tallied 188 yards rushing and three touchdowns on the ground.

Ward wasn’t the only Cougar had a strong game rushing, as senior running back Kenneth Farrow had his best game of the season, rushing for 159 yards on 19 attempts, tallying his first two touchdowns of the season in the process.

The Cougars defense also played a strong game, slowing down a potent Golden Hurricane offense and holding them to just 24 points, their lowest total of the year.

SMU rolls into the match-up with a 1-4 record overall and 0-1 record in the AAC, with their only win of the season coming against the University of North Texas.

UH is currently one of only 20 undefeated teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision, and one of four teams in the AAC.

The Cougars also currently sit just outside the Top 25 in the latest edition of the AP Poll, tied for 27 with Duke University.

The Cougars and Mustangs will square off inside TDECU Stadium on Thursday night, with a primetime kick off scheduled for 7 p.m.
