Eleven Cougars were announced as American Athletic Conference team players, and head coach Tom Herman was honored as the AAC Co-Coach of the Year Wednesday.

Three UH players were announced as part of the all-conference first team, seven named all-second team, and one was an honorable mention in this year’s awards, joining Herman in the post-season awards.

Herman and United States Naval Academy head coach Ken Niumatalolo share in the honors of The American Coach of the Year in the American Southwest Conference.

In his first year at UH, Herman has led the team to its fourth-ever season of at least 11 wins, giving him the chance to join Kevin Sumlin as the only UH coach with 12 wins in a season.

Junior Demarcus Ayers was named to the first team as both a wide receiver and return specialist, joining senior linebacker Elandon Roberts and senior safety Trevon Stewart.

From the offense, junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr., senior running back Kenneth Farrow and senior offensive tackle Alex Cooper were named to the second team all-conference.

Junior defensive tackle B.J. Singleton, junior linebacker Steven Taylor, senior corner back William Jackson III and senior safety Adrian McDonald represent the defensive on the second team as well.

Freshman Will Noble received an honorable mention in the AAC, starting six games along the offensive line, after injuries depleted the Cougars depth there.

The Cougars square off with the Temple University Owls on Saturday at 11 a.m. inside TDECU Stadium for a chance at the American Athletic Conference title.
