The Cougar men’s basketball team returns home from a one-game road trip to take on the 13th-ranked Southern Methodist University Mustangs on Monday night.

The Cougars are currently on a two-game win streak after bouncing back from losing four straight and are looking to take down the top team in the American Athletic Conference.

UH is currently sixth in the AAC, with a 5-4 record in conference play, while SMU is 8-1 in the American Conference, their only loss of the season coming against Temple University two games ago.

The Cougars have already eclipsed their overall win total and conference win total from last season, with nine games left to go in the season.

This season, UH is averaging 78.6 points per game, while allowing just 68.9 per game, in comparison to scoring just 64.4 points per game last season.

The Cougars are also shooting better this season, with their field-goal percentage at .459 this season, a .066-point increase over their .393 mark from last year.

Sophomore guard Rob Gray Jr. leads the Cougars in scoring this season, averaging 17.3 points per game with a .435 shooting percentage.

Senior forward Devonta Pollard is averaging 12.2 points per game, adding 5.6 rebounds per game, while junior transfer guard Damyean Dotson is scoring 12.1 points per game while grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game.

The last time these two teams met this season, the Cougars dropped a close game to the Mustangs, 77-73 in Dallas. The Cougars will be looking for revenge on Monday night inside Hofheinz Pavilion, with tip off against SMU set for 7 p.m.
