The Cougars swept the championships of the Presidents Day Shootout Monday, with redshirt sophomore Papito Gonzalez taking first place in the event.
With a team score of 11+ over par, the Cougars also took the team championship at the event, beating out rival Rice University by one stroke.
Gonzalez shot an even-par round of 72 on the second day to end the tournament at +2 over par and capture the individual championship.
Behind Gonzalez, sophomores Alan De Bondt and Michael Perras and redshirt junior Emmett Oh tied for second place, each tallying +3 over par for the event.
Redshirt junior Matt Dunn shot +4 over par for the event to place in a tie for ninth place, while redshirt sophomore Joshua Gibbons, redshirt freshmen Matt Williams and Logan Davis each shot +10 over par, +10 over par and +12 over par respectively in the tournament.
The Cougars claimed both titles in their first event of the spring. They’re preparing for the All-American Intercollegiate tournament, which begins on Friday and ends on Sunday.
