Riding an impressive series win over the weekend, the Cougar baseball team will try for three in a row against the Prairie View A&M University Panthers Tuesday at Schroeder Park.
The Panthers come to Houston riding a two-game win streak, but have had a disappointing season to this point at just 4-7.
The Panthers won their weekend series by stealing the Saturday and Sunday matchups from Texas Southern University. Both teams enter the Tuesday evening game with the mindset of sustaining their winning ways which should make for a competitive match.
The Cougars will look to keep their bats hot Tuesday as they were able to score a combined 21 runs on Saturday and Sunday against the Bears. The team is seeing the ball well and was able to hit a season-high five homeruns against on Sunday.
Freshman Joe Davis has been sensational for the Cougars to this point, leading the team in hits (21) and RBI (18). His .467 average has opposing pitchers taking notice anytime he steps in the batter’s box, a trend that will likely continue on Tuesday.
Sophomore outfielder Corey Julks sat out Sunday’s tilt with the Bears due to general back stiffness. Julks has shown flashes of greatness not only with his bat, but also in the field. Although there is no timetable on his recovery, the Cougars hope to have him back in the lineup Tuesday night to help down the Panthers.
First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Darryl & Lori Shroeder Park.
