Sophomore starting pitcher Seth Romero was named National Pitcher of the Month by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association for his performance in March.
Romero garnered a 4-0 record in March, including a 0.58 ERA, with two earned runs allowed in 31 innings pitched.
During the month, Romero also pitched a complete game and allowed just 10 hits all month in five appearances, while striking out 39 batters. Opponents’ batting average during the month was held to .099.
Overall for the year, Romero holds a 1.72 ERA and a 4-1 record, his only loss coming this past weekend against conference foe East Carolina University.
With the Pitcher of the Month award, Romero adds to previous honors of NCBWA Pitcher of the Week and AAC Pitcher of the Week as well.
Romero and the pitching staff have played a big part in the Cougars’ success to this point, with a 17-10 record so far this year. He has paired with junior pitcher Andrew Lantrip to highlight the weekend rotation.
Romero will get another shot on the mound this weekend against another conference foe, the University of Central Florida. The Cougars host the Knights in a three-game series beginning on Friday and continuing through Sunday. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. inside of Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
