The C.T. Bauer College of Business will host its third Inspiring Minds event, “Lessons in Leadership,” featuring head football coach Tom Herman at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stubblefield Auditorium.
The series, which started last year, is open to students and the public, but participants are asked to RSVP. Attendees are also invited to participate during the event by submitting questions on social media using #InspiringMinds16.
“The goal of our Inspiring Minds series is to bring speakers to our students (and the Houston community) who have unique perspectives on leadership,” Bauer Dean Latha Ramchand said.
Inspiring Minds has previously hosted Bauer alums David Williams and Aylwin Lewis. Williams is the president and CEO of Make-A-Wish America, and Lewis is the Potbelly Sandwich Works chairman, president and CEO.
Students will get to hear from a seasoned leader, but the series also provides a great way to network with Bauer alumni and the rest of the UH community, accounting junior Kylie Dawson said.
When selecting Herman for the event, Bauer coordinators wanted to bring its students someone who will motivate and inspire them, Ramchand said.
“We hope that (the students) will find some aspect of his personal journey or advice that he gives relatable and applicable to their own experience,” Ramchand said.
Similar to the previous speakers, the event will go beyond Herman’s professional experience on the football field.
“At the Inspiring Minds event, we hope to learn what he’s like off the field and shed some light on who he is as a leader, a husband and father, a Mensa member and a person,” Ramchand said.
A student does not have to be a sports fan to enjoy this event and learn from Herman, Bauer College Program Manager for Student Engagement Sarayu Sundar said.
“Hopefully, listening to coach Herman at the Inspiring Minds event will motivate the students in the audience to go in search of their own inspiring moments,” Sundar said.
