Sunday afternoon turned violent for one UH women’s basketball player when a close acquaintance allegedly stabbed her with a knife.
Head coach Ronald Hughey reported the incident to UH Police Department after an unspecified third party informed him. The victim alleged to have been stabbed in the leg at 2 p.m. Sunday, according to UHPD.
Hughey declined to comment for this article.
David Bassity, the associate athletics director for strategic marketing and communications, said the department had been made aware of the situation and would be handling it internally.
“The safety of our student athletes is always at the forefront of our priorities,” Bassity said.
The department declined to comment on whether the student’s injuries would prevent her from participating in practice or the upcoming home game against St. Edwards on Nov. 6. According to UHPD, the victim sustained minor physical injuries.
