The Cougars will take on Louisville Cardinals for the last home game — and arguably one of the most important games — of the season.
The game’s popularity is likely to cause massive transportation problems on campus. Like the first home game at TDECU Stadium against the University of Connecticut, the volume of parents, alumni and students coming to campus will severely impact parking and shuttle routes.
Many of the surface lots that students with permits normally use will close at 4 p.m. and convert to donor and cash lots. While Parking and Transportation encourages permit holders to park for free at the Energy Research Park and use the shuttle to get to campus, there are only about 1,000 spaces available.
PTS continues to spotlight alternative forms of transportation to or from campus, such as the METRORail, bus service and additional parking at ERP. The COAST program offers incentives to students, faculty and staff for using alternative and sustainable options.
Students reacting on social media have criticized these plans as shortsighted as much of the UH population are commuters and do not fall in the light rail’s service range.
Closed streets
Cullen Boulevard between Holman Street and Cougar Place will close to traffic Thursday noon. It will reopen one hour after the game is over.
Shuttle closures, reroutes
The PGH/ ERP shuttle will be rerouted at 7 a.m. Thursday with stops near the Architecture Building and Blaffer Gallery.
The slightly modified Cullen Oaks route stops running at noon for the rest of the day.
Where not to park
Midnight before the game: Lots 12A, 12B, 16B, 16E and half of 15C will close. Cars parked here must be removed by the time the lots close or risk being towed.
The student and visitor entrances to the Stadium Parking Garage will be inaccessible all day Thursday. PTS suggests parking in lot 4A or the ERP.
Noon: Faculty and staff members with a permit for the Stadium Parking Garage will be redirected to the faculty/staff section of the Welcome Center Garage.
4 p.m.: Lots 6A, 9B, 9C, 16D, 16G, 18A, 19C, 20A, 20C and 21B will turn into cash and donor parking. PTS advises that permits will not be honored after 4 p.m.
However, cars parked in these lots before 4 p.m. will not have to be moved.
The East Garage and Welcome Center Student Garage will turn into cash lots. Alternate parking is available at lot 4A or ERP.
The faculty and staff entrance to the Stadium Parking Garage will close at 4 p.m.
Stadium Garage permit holders will be able to park at the Welcome Center Garage entrance 4.
