Make first December weekend festive with tamales, cosplay and cafe

Tamale Festival Houston

Noon to 9 p.m., Saturday, Navigation Esplanade

Food, funk and fun will gather at this special weekend occasion. Featuring tasty tamales (after all, it’s the main event) and electric performances from Soul Creatures plus Metalachi, the world’s first heavy metal mariachi band. Get tickets here.

Grand Opening Cosplay Contest

10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Dragon’s Lair Houston North

All ages can dress up and see if they are the best Clown Prince of Crime, Wonder Woman, Pokemon and more. There will be prizes, game demos and free stuff. Check times here. Pre-register to the store to get 10 percent off your purchase!

Wreath-Making Party

3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Cafeza

Marche de Noel / French Christmas Fair

9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Memorial Elementary

Hosted by Education Francaise Greater Houston, this special weekend event brings all sorts of trinkets, books and more to raise funds for EFGH Saturday French classes.

World Famous Gospel Brunch

1:30 p.m., Sunday, House of Blues
