The Houston Cougars climbed to No. 14 in the recent AP poll after a top-25 win over Oklahoma State. They are also ranked No. 16 in the AFCA Coaches poll.

This is Houston’s highest ranking this season and the highest since 2016. Additionally, Houston is now the fourth-highest-ranked team in the Big 12, with No. 2 BYU, No. 8 Texas Tech and No. 10 Utah in front, while Arizona sits at No. 25.

The Cougars are also ranked above No. 19 Texas, which ranked in the top 10 throughout this season before losing to Florida.

On Oct. 24, Salt Lake City will be the location for ESPN College GameDay, which will highlight Houston vs. Utah. Utah is one of six undefeated FBS teams.

According to Houston Athletics, the Cougars will face their first back-to-back ranked matchups since 1977. A win over the Utes could put Houston in the top 10, giving it a better chance to make the College Football Playoffs.
