Q-Tip gathers hip-hop buffet

Old school and new school will collide Friday at Warehouse Live. Q-Tip, former member of the legendary hip-hop act A Tribe Called Quest, will be headlining 2009’s 2K Sports Bounce Tour and is bringing along hip-hop’s freshest duo, The Cool Kids.

Q-Tip will be on the tour supporting and playing songs from his recently released album Renaissance, which happens to be his first studio release since 2002’s Kamaal the Abstract, which never saw a proper release. Following the brief commercial success of "Vivrant Thing," the lead single from 1999’s Amplified, his current single "Gettin’ Up" has been receiving airplay on radio stations across America.

In a recent video blog, Q-Tip mentioned that The Cool Kids are one of his current top three artists, so it only makes sense to bring the duo along for the ride. Hailing from Chicago, Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks are quite the team. They help create hip-hop beats that are very reminiscent of the late 80s and rap about everything from shoes to pagers to bicycles.

The group has a plethora of material that only dates back a couple of years. Their first official release was The Bake Sale, was released in June 2008. Despite having several mixtapes and EPs, the group has yet to release a full length, but plans on releasing the tentatively titled When Fish Ride Bicycles by 2008’s end.

Also on this already stacked tour is the world-renowned DJ Scratch from EPMD, who will be sharing the stage with Q-Tip. DJ Scratch is considered a hip-hop legend among many DJs and hip-hop’s elite alike, due to his work with EPMD, one of the longest running groups in hip-hop history.

As if these artists weren’t enough reason to attend the tour, The Knux will be opening up the night’s festivities. The Knux are an innovative duo from Hollywood by way of New Orleans, finding a sound that is chock full of soul, pop, hip-hop and rock and roll. The duo, brothers Krispy Kreme and Rah Al Millio, moved to Hollywood post-Katrina. The Knux seems to have taken some obvious notes from Andre 3000 and Outkast while writing their entertaining debut, Remind Me In 3 Days.

In addition to the performances, the tour provides fans with the chance to play brand new games by 2K Sports, enter contests and receive exclusive merchandise only found on the tour. 2K Sports has created an interactive experience for video game and hip-hop fans to unite. This could easily be one of the biggest and most entertaining tours of the year, so do not miss it.
