Baseball – Comebacks vault UH to C-USA Championship game

The Cougars were on the verge of elimination twice, but managed to escape. Their survival skills have earned them a spot in the Conference USA Championship Game.

In the second game of the C-USA tournament, UH and Southern Miss. went back and forth for the first nine innings for a 6-6 tie. The contest was deadlocked until the 14th inning when a Ryan Still bunt scored the game-winning John Cannon run to make it 7-6.

The Cougars play again today at 4 p.m. against Tulane and will await the winner of Central Florida and Rice for the championship.

UH opened the C-USA tournament against East Carolina on Wednesday with an 8-3 win. The Cougars scored three runs in the fourth inning but the Pirates responded in the fourth with four runs. UH went scoreless until the ninth when the offense woke up for five runs.
