Caleb Ramsey was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 11th round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.
“I’m ecstatic,” Ramsey said. “This is what I’ve wanted since I was three years old when I started playing.
“I’m just excited to get to play everyday and just worry about baseball — no school, no meetings, no tutoring. I’m so excited for that.”
Ramsey finished with a career batting average of .320 and an .825 OPS at UH.
Ramsey will likely begin his professional career as a Vermont Lake Monster in Class A-Short Season.
Last season, the Nationals selected former-Cougar infielder Blake Kelso in the 10th round.
“I’m hoping at some point I get to jump a level and play with him,” Ramsey said.
