UH outduels North Texas in high fashion

The Cougars made a statement Saturday afternoon out at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts, as they made easy work of No. 63 North Texas, defeating the Mean Green, 5-0, clinching their best four-game start since 2007

Entering the match, the Cougars (4-0) hadn’t defeated a ranked opponent in four consecutive tries, with its last win vs. a ranked school coming in last year’s spring season opener vs. then No. 59 Stephen F. Austin.

The Cougars not only clinched their second shutout victory of the season, but also did so without dropping a single set.

UH jumped in front early, as junior Charlotte Phillips and freshman Tina Rupert earned a dominating 6-1 win on court three.

Sophomore Maria Andrea Cardenas improved to a perfect 4-0 in singles action, as she brought in the fifth and final point for Houston, after defeating Kamilla Galieva 6-0, 6-4.
