Cougars in middle of pack after AAC Championship first round

The Cougars finished out day one of the American Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday with a fifth place team finish and three teammates — junior Raegan Bremer, sophomore Emily Gilbreth and freshman Yuka Kajiki — all tying for 10th after shooting 74s.

The Cougars ended day one with a team score of 297, putting them within shots of the tournament leaders as the No. 23 UCF Knights sit on top with a score of 291, the East Carolina Pirates are second with 292, the USF Bulls rank third with 294, and the No. 24 Tulane Green Wave stands just ahead of the Cougars at 296.

Other notable finishes for the Cougars are freshman Megan Thothong’s finish in 19th after a round one score of 65 and senior Courtney Ferguson rounding out Houston players with a score of 77 to place 31st.

The Cougars get back out to the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club Monday and look to climb the standings with a strong second showing.
