On Sept. 10, political science adjunct faculty, graduate student and Ph.D. candidate was removed from campus by UHPD following allegations of owning child sexual abuse material.
The faculty member can be seen admitting to these allegations in a live stream video conducted by PredatorPoachers. As of now, it remains unclear if they were arrested or if they are facing any charges.
“The University of Houston is aware of a concerning video involving an adjunct faculty member who is also a graduate student. The video involves discussion of child sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse materials,” said a University spokesperson. “UH Police responded to the place where the video was being made in progress.”
According to the spokesperson, UHPD is currently conducting interviews and gathering more information related to this situation.
“We take allegations involving child exploitation, abuse and child sexual abuse materials extremely seriously,” the spokesperson said.
Students attending the faculty member’s class are still processing this news.
“Honestly I’m more disappointed than anything,” said psychology sophomore Jared, who requested to not reveal their last name because of safety concerns. “I figured he was such a cool guy up until this point.”
The University and UHPD will take appropriate action, including contacting the District Attorney, based on the facts of the situation, the spokesperson said.
“The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and the community at large remain our highest priority,” the spokesperson said.
The Cougar is not naming the individual because charges haven’t been filed yet. This is a developing story and The Cougar will continue to report on it.
