UH defensive lineman and sophomore Carmello Dedric Brooks has been arrested and charged with physically assaulting a pregnant woman. Brooks was arrested on Thursday and has since posted a $15,000 bond.
Brooks allegedly picked up the pregnant woman and slammed her on the ground. Visible injuries were noted on the woman.
In August, Brooks faced a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief in which he had a verbal altercation with a different woman that later led to the destruction of her apartment’s door handle. The woman in the August verbal altercation had a relationship with Brooks that led to her becoming pregnant.
Court records show Brooks has been wanted since August after an incident involving a different pregnant woman. However, it remains unclear if Houston Athletics were aware about the same, according to an article by KPRC Houston.
Brooks played in UH’s most recent game against Southern University however, he was been suspended and did not make travel with the team for Friday’s game against No. 13 Texas Tech.
“We are aware of an incident involving a UH student,” said a UH spokesperson. “We take all allegations of this nature very seriously and are gathering more information.”
