Haylee Morrison: What are you doing for Halloween?
Alex Gonzalez: I am going to New Orleans.
Morrison: Oh really, what are you going to do there?
Gonzalez: Go out and party on Bourbon (Street) with my friends.
Morrison: Are you dressing up?
Gonzalez: Yeah, I’m going as a nun.
Morrison: That’s so funny. What are you friends going as?
Gonzalez: I know one is going as Bill Gates and not sure about the others.
Morrison: Have you ever been to New Orleans before?
Gonzalez: No, I have never been. We plan on going to cemeteries and then going to the bars. I’m going to take a shot glass to every bar, and instead of asking for candy, I’m going to ask for a shot. I don’t know if it’s going to work, but we’ll see.
Morrison: So you mentioned that you are a music major. Are you a singer or do you play an instrument?
Gonzalez: I play the viola for the UH choir and orchestra.
Morrison: Really? How long have you played the viola?
Gonzalez: I played the violin for two years and then switched to the viola and I have been playing that for about seven years.
Morrison: What sparked your interest in playing an instrument?
Gonzalez: I used to be in the choir when I was a kid. I realized that I wanted to be on the instrumental side of things so then I switched to the violin and then to the viola.
Morrison: Do you want to play professionally?
Gonzalez: Yes. I want to be a professional performer for the Houston or Chicago Symphony or any other major symphony or opera.
Morrison: Do you have any upcoming performances?
Gonzalez: I actually just played in the opera this weekend.
Morrison: What opera was it?
Gonzalez: Orpheus in the Underworld, at the Morris Opera House.
Morrison: It’s a beautiful day. Any plans to be outside?
Gonzalez: Actually, I’m on my way to play soccer right now.
Morrison: Where do you play?
Gonzalez: I usually go to the Rec Center or sometimes I like to go play pool at the Satellite.
Morrison: What do you like to do on the weekends?
Gonzalez: Party. My roommate is in a fraternity so we hang out there. I like to go to the clubs downtown.
